Foodie Friday :: Avocado and Salsa Verde Crostinis

Avocado Crostinis with Salsa Verde

I adore avocados! Don’t you? So creamy and fresh. I love them sliced with a dash of lime or lemon juice and a little salt & pepper. Simply delicious!

I also love them on a crostini. Here I’ve topped my crostinis with a little sour cream, homemade salsa verde, diced avocado and cilantro with a squeeze of lime juice. The flavors are so lovely together. The creaminess of the avocado and sour cream with the crunchy toasted baguette slice… heaven!

Have a great spring weekend! I’ll be up to even more spring cleaning… so far, I’ve deep cleaned and organized the kitchen, rearranged and updated our bedroom and home office, and made two trips to drop off donations, maybe one more in our weekend outlook. :) Feels good to purge!

Recent Finds :: Bags

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Have I ever mentioned I might have a bag obsession? It’s been going on since childhood. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Anyway, I wanted to share a few recent finds.

American Tourister Weekender Bag

American Tourister Weekender Bag

Dustin took me thrifting on my birthday a couple weeks ago and I scored this fabulous American Tourister Weekender Bag for a whopping $3.99! I just love Greta (that’s the bag) in all of her avocado green glory. Greta is in great condition with a minor stain on the inside lining. However, it seems to be something I can easily clean up. Now, I need an excuse to take Greta somewhere fabulous!

Thrifted Small Suitcase

Thrifted Small Suitcase

Another travel suitcase I found back in April. Unfortunately, I do not recall how much it was, although, I’m sure it was under $5. This is the exact same avocado green as the Weekender Bag above. I love this small suitcase. It’s in pristine condition, and my favorite part is the inside. Makes me want to sit in front of it and get ready for a night out! I love the little mirror and the stitching detail. And yes, I should have cleaned off the mirror BEFORE shooting pictures. Not sure what her name should be. Suggestions?

Now I must take a quick pool break before finishing up my work for the day! Enjoy your Tuesday. Can’t believe it’s almost Independence Day already. Any fun plans?

Avocado Bowls

Our local thrift shop every thursday gives 25% off your entire purchase. Last Thursday I talked Dustin into taking me over there. You see, he knows me too well. I can ALWAYS find some hidden treasure, so it’s best sometimes to just not go at all. Anyway, we scored some great stuff on that trip. When I saw these avocado bowls complete with the plastic lids my heart skipped a beat! But, ouch, $24.99! That’s a little steep for my frugal ways. Thank you Jesus, it was 25% off day!! Got these bowls for around $18.

Where’s the catch? Well, I opened a couple of these lids and (wow!) I could smell the years and years of food storage in them. After a run in the dishwasher they still stunk! So, next step…. white vinegar! My weapon of choice. I simply plugged the sink and soaked the lids in the vinegar overnight. Now they don’t smell at all!

Avocado Pots

And when I got home, noticed they matched pretty perfectly with these goodies I’d picked up the week before. The fondue pot, fondue sticks and pot all came in around $5! Unfortunately, the small pot’s handle won’t stay on anymore. Also, the inside is pretty worn and will not stay clean. Might turn it into a plant pot since it matches my kitchen/dining! Will share results.

Happy Wednesday!
