Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Hello!

2nd Annual Girls Trip to NYC, originally uploaded by sewtrashy.

Does it feel like the end of 2009 flew by in record time? Now we are already almost a week into the New Year! Incredible. Hope everyone’s had a fabulous (and safe!) holiday season filled with deep love and amazing food.

I’ve been up to a lot over the last few months and will be updating you with photos soon! Took another trip to NYC, made a pair of Superhero Capes from old sheets, baked dozens of tasty cookies, took a road trip to see my wonderful family, enjoyed lots of fires, happily endured a few feet of snow, went ice skating in the Sculpture Garden, entertained house guests, updated our bedroom on the cheap and have been baking, baking, baking from my Martha Stewart Baking Handbook. ( I just love her!)

The photo above is one of my favorites taken in New York City. I imagine myself riding this little number around a tiny European village in a lovely dress and flowing scarf. And, of course, the basket contains pretty spring flowers, a freshly baked french baguette and some amazing cheeses for our midday lunch by our window overlooking the cobblestone streets below.

Ahh…. maybe one day.

Happy New Year!! Can’t wait to see what this year brings.

I’m alive!

Hello to anyone out there who is still checking SewTrashy! Bill, my most loyal fan, this post is for you.

Walking the Bridge

I can’t believe it’s been (almost) three months since I posted last. Does anyone else feel the year flying by? Sheesh! Life has been good, busy and full of fun things. Although, not much time for making and creativity. Hopefully that will change soon.

Most recently, Dustin and I went to New York City for a quick 2.5 day weekend trip along with some of my family. We took the bus, which was super fun and only cost $4.50 roundtrip TOTAL for both of us. I mean, you can’t beat that! We had a blast while we were there. Dustin took all of these photos. Enjoy!

Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge

Grimaldi's Pizza

Grimaldi’s Pizza was amazing! Totally worth the wait. We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge which certainly worked up our appetite for pizza! I would recommend trying Grimaldi’s (and walking the Bridge!). The space is quite small and a little noisy, but it’s also cozy and fun. You can watch them cranking out the pizzas in the back. Super thin crust, baked in a coal brick oven. YUM!

Subway

Street Sweets NYC

Amazing cupcakes. Well, at least they look amazing! We tried the Mini Pumplin Whoopie Pies and Coconut Nutella Macaroons which were both pretty spectacular. These baked goodies come from Street Sweets. A blue lunch wagon bakery on wheels! Try it if you see it. Bring cash, unless you want to buy $10 worth of goodies on your debit card.

Times Square

Here’s my lovely Mom and super cool brother. We went through craziness trying to get tickets to see West Side Story. Finally, we lucked out and paid $35 for balcony seats and ended up with center orchestra seats! Amazing. Great show. Super fun. Made me want to dance!

Salute.

Reflection

The only photo of Dustin the entire trip.

subway.

Wrong stop. Lots of extra walking.
Definitely earned all the yummy food we ate during the trip.

Do you have a favorite New York City restaurant or activity? I’m going back in a couple weeks, and would love your input!

Recent Finds :: Bags

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Have I ever mentioned I might have a bag obsession? It’s been going on since childhood. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Anyway, I wanted to share a few recent finds.

American Tourister Weekender Bag

American Tourister Weekender Bag

Dustin took me thrifting on my birthday a couple weeks ago and I scored this fabulous American Tourister Weekender Bag for a whopping $3.99! I just love Greta (that’s the bag) in all of her avocado green glory. Greta is in great condition with a minor stain on the inside lining. However, it seems to be something I can easily clean up. Now, I need an excuse to take Greta somewhere fabulous!

Thrifted Small Suitcase

Another travel suitcase I found back in April. Unfortunately, I do not recall how much it was, although, I’m sure it was under $5. This is the exact same avocado green as the Weekender Bag above. I love this small suitcase. It’s in pristine condition, and my favorite part is the inside. Makes me want to sit in front of it and get ready for a night out! I love the little mirror and the stitching detail. And yes, I should have cleaned off the mirror BEFORE shooting pictures. Not sure what her name should be. Suggestions?

Now I must take a quick pool break before finishing up my work for the day! Enjoy your Tuesday. Can’t believe it’s almost Independence Day already. Any fun plans?

My Year in Cities: 2008

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

I saw this over on Make It and thought, why not? One or more nights must be spent in each city.

Here goes:

Honolulu, HI
Polihale Beach Park, Kauai, HI
Haena Beach Park, Kauai, HI
Richmond, VA
Los Angeles, CA
Las Vegas, NV
Grand Canyon, AZ
Pheonix, AZ
El Paso, TX
Midland, TX
Colonial Heights, VA
Charlotte, NC
Silver Spring, MD
San Francisco, CA
Santa Cruz, CA
New York City, NY

Wow! I didn’t realize just how many places would be on this list until now! Thanks to our cross country drive over the summer, we had quite an adventurous year. I love travel, hope 2009 is just as fun-filled!

Where did you spend 2008?

Please forgive my absence lately. We have relocated from Hawaii to the Washington, D.C. area, and are in the process of settling in. I am so over cardboard boxes!! ha! My studio space is the next room to tackle so hopefully I’ll be making more Gocco prints soon!!! Stay tuned…

Here’s some eye candy from a recent trip to San Francisco. Enjoy!
